ForSEI Selection Test Wave 2

In order to enlist new members, ForSEI (Islamic Economics Studies Forum) UIN Sunan Kalijaga runs an open recruitment annually. This year ForSEI started the enrollment from Sept. 2 until Oct. 5, and held written and oral tests on Oct. 12. Because some registrants were unable to attend due to various reasons, the committee decided to undertake Selection Test Wave 2 on Oct. 17, 2013. The selection was begun at 2:30 p.m. in front of Convention Hall, UIN Sunan Kalijaga campus. It consisted of two parts: 1) written test and 2) interview test.

The written test given in form of multiple choice and essay questions. Topics at the test included psychology, bank and interest, fiqh muamalah, shari'ah insurance, and others. The participants were allowed to spend 90 minutes to complete 100-number exam. For multiple-choice scoring, each right answer is worth 1 point. While for essay section, 3 points are rewarded to any correct explanation. Most questions were taken from ForSEI Basic Education (FBE) guideline book―which had been distributed since Oct. 7. So the better the preparation, the more points might be obtained.

After written test finished, the committee gave a break for participants to perform ashar prayer. They should go back at 3:30 p.m. for having interview sessions. The interview phase was conducted by 4 different interviewers. Each of them assessed registrants on the subjects of religious, Islamic economics, organization, and ForSEI itself. In religion session, the interviewees asked to write down a certain surah and recite it afterwards. They also got to mention Islam pillars and essential principals in faith.

As an organization concerned about Islamic economics, ForSEI would certainly test its candidate member’s knowledge of the field. They were questioned about Islamic economics’ rationale, history, and its implementation in today’s life. Besides, the interviewer inquired their motivation and purpose to learn such subject. In organization session, participants were challenged to choose among ForSEI agenda, lecture and any other activities then explain the reason. They also asked to tell what they expected and offered to ForSEI if they got accepted.

The last interview was about FoSSEI (Islamic Economics Studies and Relations Forum) and ForSEI. In this session, questions given related to FoSSEI, ForSEI, and the relation between these two organizations. Participants also had to convince the interviewer by promoting their strength, ability, or value added. After going through the interview series, they were considered completing the selection. According to ForSEI official Twitter account (@KSEI_ForSEI), the result will be announced within the next few days.
